Name Reservation Issues

Following the conclusion of the World of Warcraft Forever beta, Blizzard opened servers for character creation to allow buyers of the Skyborne packs to secure their names. However, many users encountered false restricted messages during the process.

Despite a rough start to the reservation system, Blizzard addressed the issue and confirmed it stemmed from a bugged name filter.

Overly Restrictive Filter

Community managers explained that the restricted name list intended to block major lore characters and technical conflicts contained a bug that made the filter excessively restrictive, incorrectly flagging certain letter sequences.

Players noted that the filter also blocked generic terms and NPC names containing common letter combinations, preventing numerous intended character creations.

Fixes and Status

While fixes deployed following server restarts resolved many of the flagged combinations, some users continued reporting isolated reservation difficulties.

Naming policies have previously drawn scrutiny during the beta phase, though developers remain focused on refining social features and community guidelines for the MMO.
