We really liked the iPhone Duo. Our Global Editor-in-Chief, Mark Spoonauer, gave it an impressive 4.5-star rating. Personally, I passed on Apple's first foldable, even after waiting more than five years to get my hands on it.
Apple Tests Face ID for iPhone Duo 2
A significant concern for many potential buyers of the iPhone Duo has been the absence of Face ID. Reports from Mark Gurman's PowerOn podcast indicate that Apple is already conducting internal tests for an iPhone Duo 2 that will include Face ID functionality, addressing a key criticism of the initial model.
Despite the original iPhone Duo's imminent release, Apple is reportedly well into development of its successor. This early work suggests the company is responsive to initial feedback from both consumers and critics regarding its first foldable device.

Potential Face ID Design and Action Button
According to Gurman's podcast, the Face ID system in the iPhone Duo 2 is expected to utilize an under-display camera, maintaining a design approach similar to the current model.
Specifics on how Apple plans to integrate Face ID into the compact foldable design, a challenge that prevented its inclusion in the first iPhone Duo, were not extensively detailed. Gurman suggested that advancements in AI and smaller component sizes might facilitate its integration, with more information likely to emerge closer to the device's anticipated launch next fall.

Additionally, Apple is reportedly exploring the inclusion of an Action Button in the upcoming iPhone Duo, a feature that would align it more closely with the capabilities found in the Pro and Pro Max iPhone models.
While it remains early to confirm all features for the iPhone Duo 2, the addition of Face ID and an Action Button could significantly enhance its appeal. For many, resolving initial generation issues and offering these key features would be crucial before investing in a premium foldable device.
