Reachability Comes to iPhone Duo

The iPhone Duo adapted iOS 27 for a new form factor but faced criticism for locking the taskbar to the right-hand side, forcing left-handed users to rely on their non-dominant hand for single-handed navigation.

That limitation is addressed in the iOS 27.3 developer beta, which introduces Reachability to the iPhone Duo to let users shift interface content within comfortable thumb reach.

Instead of traditional top-down shifting, the Duo enables users to swipe inward from either the left or right edge of the screen to bring content closer.

This functionality supports both the 5.4-inch outer display and the 7.6-inch nano-textured inner display.

Reachability is enabled by default following the software update and can be managed manually via the system accessibility settings.

Siri AI

Siri AI is about to be let loose

Alongside Reachability, the 27.3 update expands Siri AI across iOS, macOS, iPadOS, and visionOS. The assistant now functions directly within Music, Messages, Photos, Calendar, and Reminders to handle playlist creation and event scheduling.

Apple is also opening Siri AI capabilities to third-party developers through App Intents, allowing software to integrate personal context awareness.

Leadership previously emphasized an approach combining generative AI with personal context to deliver practical intelligence.

The latest software release brings those development goals closer to reality.

Developers can now integrate app content and actions directly into Siri AI using App Intents, supporting natural language processing and onscreen awareness.

Users can execute custom actions through voice requests, from checking deliveries to booking reservations, while new skills allow combining multiple actions into single workflows.

The public release of iOS 27.3 is scheduled for later this year.
