iPhone 20 Design Challenges
Rumors surrounding the iPhone 20, which is expected to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone, have suggested a potential all-glass design that eliminates camera and Face ID cutouts.
However, recent reports from leaker Digital Chat Station indicate that the iPhone 20 display will retain the Dynamic Island cutout, a design feature already present in current models.
Initial expectations for a truly full-screen experience relied on hiding the camera and Face ID hardware beneath the display, potentially paired with a curved glass chassis.
The presence of a Dynamic Island cutout would contradict the concept of an all-glass aesthetic, as the physical hole remains visible at the top of the screen.
Under-Display Camera Limitations
Integrating under-display camera technology remains a significant challenge. While the iPhone Duo features an under-display FaceTime camera and the iPhone 18 Pro Max moved the Face ID IR camera beneath the display, performance trade-offs persist.
The Duo's under-display FaceTime camera currently offers a 4-megapixel resolution, which falls short of the quality expected for standard selfie photography.
Given that the iPhone 20 may not incorporate the alternative selfie methods found in the Duo, the limitations of current under-display camera technology make a full implementation unlikely.
Future Outlook
It remains probable that the Dynamic Island will persist in the iPhone 20, leaving only the possibility of size adjustments or further refinement by Apple.
