AI Scam Detection
Android is introducing new scam defense features that aim to help users evade mobile fraud, including bolstered protection in Google Messages. Building on existing detection tools, a new enhanced protection setting will roll out to tap into cloud-based Gemini AI models to evaluate potential scammer intentions in conversations with unrecognized senders.

Cloud Analysis and Privacy
Scammers often disguise their true motives behind slow-burn conversations. Secure cloud analysis augments and extends existing on-device detection, allowing systems to identify novel and sophisticated attacks while uncovering abusers trying to hide their tracks.
User data is encrypted during this AI analysis and processed in a secure dedicated space that cannot be accessed externally. The enhanced protection mode is opt-in and also uses on-device Gemini Nano AI to inspect real-time web signals in unfamiliar URLs sent to the user before they are opened to determine if links are malicious.
Additional Security Updates
Additional security features include blocking apps from enabling call forwarding and notifying users when someone attempts to do so, alongside automatically concealing sensitive information during screen-sharing in Chrome and Android WebView. Scam detection features are also expanding to devices from various manufacturers, bringing protection to hundreds of millions of additional users.
