AI Music Filter
Streaming platform Deezer is working on a new toggle that lets users filter out AI-generated music uploaded to its platform. The feature is expected to be available before the end of the year.
Turning on the toggle will stop users from seeing AI-generated tracks, albums, and related artists in search results.
User demand drove the decision to offer an option to remove this content completely from the streaming experience and focus only on human creators, according to Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier.
Platform Growth and Industry Stance
The rapid growth of AI music on the platform catalyzed the development of the feature. A previous survey indicated that roughly 45% of Deezer customers wanted a way to remove AI music from their feeds.
Deezer implemented AI-detection tools previously, noting that AI-generated tracks accounted for 10% of daily uploads at the time.
By July, the company reported that more than 50% of daily uploads to its platform consisted of AI-generated tracks, averaging 90,000 tracks per day.
Industry Approaches
Other music streaming services have adopted varying policies regarding AI music. Bandcamp has banned AI tracks, Tidal eliminated monetization for AI music uploads, and Spotify focuses on tagging AI tracks and artists more prominently.
Apple Music has also reportedly explored labeling AI tracks. In addition to platform-level tagging, users increasingly utilize independent tracking systems to identify AI-generated music.
