Meta brings FDA-cleared hearing enhancement to its smart glasses
Meta's AI glasses are expanding their accessibility features with a new hearing enhancement capability rolling out later this year.
Pricing and Availability
During Meta Connect, the company announced that Hearing Enhancement will arrive on supported Meta glasses later this year, excluding the Ray-Ban models at launch. Users can access the feature through a Meta One subscription or via a one-time purchase of $149, with a 30-day free trial available.
FDA Clearance and Setup
The software has received FDA clearance and qualifies for HSA and FSA reimbursement, subject to insurance carrier terms. It does not require a prescription and can be set up at home by the user. Wearers can activate or deactivate the function using the voice command "Hey Meta, start Hearing Enhancement."
Target Audience and Features
While Meta previously introduced a Conversation Focus mode for noisy environments, the new hearing enhancement tool is built specifically for individuals with mild to moderate hearing loss. This update coincides with accessibility enhancements for the blind and low-vision community, alongside improved audio controls.
