Following the introduction of Hybrid Compute, which allowed users to split AI workloads between frontier and local models, Perplexity now enables users to run the platform entirely on their own device.

Privacy and Control

Users with a recent Apple Silicon Mac and at least 36GB of RAM can run the entire Computer experience locally. This update aims to provide greater privacy and control over sensitive data, such as interacting with Notes and Mail apps without sending information to the cloud.

Model Options

The local release supports two models: Qwen 3.6 and PPLX Pro, a custom fine-tuned variant from Perplexity. Users can still authorize the software to access over 15 frontier models when needed, with all code and tool execution handled in an isolated sandbox environment.

Availability

Pro, Max and Enterprise subscribers can access local Computer features immediately by downloading the latest version of the Perplexity Mac app and following the setup instructions.
