The developers behind Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse are enthusiastic about all the fanart they’ve seen of the game’s characters, saying they specifically made them "hot" to appeal to fans.

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse released on October 15, and players have already shared numerous reactions online, particularly regarding its character designs.

Players are openly admiring Trevor Belmont and the various monsters they encounter in the chaotic streets of Paris, and the developers intended for this reaction.

Developers Embrace Fan Enthusiasm

Speaking with Fall Damage, marketing director and lead designer Bérenger Dupré and Sandro Bordier revealed their enjoyment of the enthusiastic reactions to the game’s characters, including the fanart seen on social media.

“Oh, it has started already. Like, man, have we seen some things,” Bordier joked.

“Trevor, especially,” Dupré added. “Didn’t realize that he would be so well-received.”

“Do you think we could add a ‘Hot Dads Edition?’” Bourdier asked, prompting Dupré to suggest there “should be a Game Award for hot dads.”

“It’s always fun to see the fanart, because we know how important and dear these characters are to the fans. We are trying to make some new, fresh stories with them, so it’s always quite stressful. And for now, the reception is very, very emotional,” Dupré continued.

Intentional Character Design

The duo admitted they deliberately made the characters attractive, with Bordier stating, “Yes, like we know some characters are hot. It’s a choice, actually. Like it’s a vibe. We’re pretty proud of it.”

“Honestly, we were super happy with all the fan reactions regarding the characters that were revealed,” he added. “We really put a lot of love from the team to design them in a way that would please fans. We were super happy to see how they reacted to the designs and the voice actor reveals, of course.”

Game's Critical Reception

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse received solid reviews, with IGN’s Scott White scoring the game an eight out of ten, praising its fast-paced action and modern take on the beloved Konami series.

A significant amount of effort went into the title, including various Easter Eggs, secret codes, and homages to classic fighting game characters, discoverable through hidden weapons in early game areas.
