Project Shift

EA has paused development on a mobile multiplayer Sims game in favor of moving forward with a rumored Sims 4 sequel.

EA announced a variety of project updates, including shelving a mobile-first multiplayer Sims project formerly known as Project Rene and later Project Lotus. The game was initially envisioned as the next major Sims title, but plans shifted to a mobile spin-off after observing the enduring popularity of The Sims 4.

The Next Evolution

With that project on the back burner, EA is shifting its focus to a Sims title internally called Project Evergreen. Industry rumors suggest this game is a sequel to The Sims 4, positioned more like a successor rather than a numbered fifth entry.

Release Timeline

Reports indicate the project is targeting a fall 2027 launch. The game is planned for release on PC and is expected to be optimized for portable handheld devices such as the Steam Deck.

Earlier in the year, the development team hinted at a new single-player franchise entry for PC and consoles, noting that a significant portion of the studio was dedicated to The Sims 4 and its next evolution.

The original Sims 4 launched in 2014, making it over a decade since a brand-new franchise baseline was introduced. While regular expansions have sustained the current game, starting fresh could offer a streamlined direction for the series.
