Unreleased Halo Plans Revealed

Following the launch of Halo: Campaign Evolved, Halo Studios published a blog post detailing plans for the future of Master Chief’s story, offering a look at where the series might have gone prior to the announcement that Activision is now managing the Halo franchise.

The next Halo game was reportedly still years away, but the blog post, penned by franchise writer Alex Wakeford, offers hints about the studio’s plans and attempts to canonize a story told across games, remakes, books, and television.

While the majority of the blog was written prior to the Xbox reshuffle, when Halo Studios believed the series was still in its hands, addendums were added before the news broke regarding the Sacristan Order.

Upcoming Novels Uncertain

Wakeford also discussed the upcoming novel by Troy Denning, titled Halo: Fireteam Noble. The studio stated it is their intent to see the project cross the finish line as a good chunk of the editorial process has been completed.

Another novel, Halo: Burn the Road Home, written by senior franchise writer Kenneth Peters, is also in development, though its future remains uncertain alongside Fireteam Noble.

Primordial and Xalanyn Teases

Official art of the Primordial by Sam Wood was also shared. The Primordial eventually became the Gravemind from Halo 2, described as a twisted progeny of the Precursors executed by Bornstellar.

The blog post concluded with a tease of the Xalanyn, described as children of Abaddon and an advanced race of immortal beings whose members were imprisoned by the Forerunners.

The suggestion indicates that whatever Halo Studios' next game would have been called, it would have revealed more of these mysterious overarching antagonists.

Concept art offers a look at the faction, which will likely not be featured in future games following the franchise's shift.

Halo Studios’ final game in the series was released globally on July 28, 2026, marking a transition to the Unreal Engine following the launch of Halo Infinite.

Recent industry shifts have also impacted other studios, with Ninja Theory announcing layoffs following studio restructuring.
