God Packs Coming to MTG
Wizards of the Coast is introducing God Packs to Magic: The Gathering, offering players a rare chance to open booster packs comprised entirely of rares and mythics.
While a standard Play Booster typically contains between two and four rares and mythics, these upcoming God Packs elevate that concept by eliminating lower rarity cards entirely from the pack configuration.
Drop Rates and Odds
Both Play Boosters and Collector Boosters will feature a chance to contain a God Pack, though Collector Boosters will offer significantly higher odds. Approximately 1 in 1,000 Play Boosters will be God Packs, compared to 1 in 300 Collector Boosters.
Booster Configuration Details
The loot distribution varies depending on the booster type. Play Boosters will include one special celebration card alongside 10 non-foil rares and mythics, two non-foil Booster Fun variants, and two foil Booster Fun cards.
Collector Boosters will feature one foil land, three foil default frame rares or mythics, three non-foil Booster Fun variants, and five foil Booster Fun variants. Additionally, Wizards is increasing general drop rates for foil rare and mythic rare cards across standard packs.
Changes to Common and Uncommon Slots
Accompanying these additions, foil commons and uncommons are being removed entirely from Play Boosters. Collector Boosters are also being trimmed down to 12 cards by removing three foil common and uncommon slots.
Rationale Behind the Adjustments
Wizards stated that removing lower rarity filler slots is intended to make room in printing capacity and reflect player opening habits, noting that many players typically skip past commons and uncommons when opening premium packs.
Removing these slots streamlines the opening experience for players focused primarily on premium treatments and high-value hits.
While many players routinely bypass lower rarity cards, the reduction of common and uncommon slots could influence availability and pricing for cards that see active constructed play.
The new booster configurations will debut with Nauctis: The Sunken Realm and apply to all subsequent in-universe sets. Universes Beyond sets will adopt the updated booster changes starting in 2028.
