The End of Resident Evil
Executive producer Jun Takeuchi outlined Capcom’s plans for its flagship horror franchise, revealing that its encompassing narrative has a definite conclusion and that the end could arrive within the next decade.
Takeuchi explained how the development team expanded on the overarching storyline with each new release, noting that a ten-year strategy was formulated during the planning stages for the Resident Evil 2 Remake.
The series narrative was not planned out from the beginning, but rather expanded over time. Takeuchi noted that creating a ten-year branding concept during the planning of the RE2 remake was a significant challenge, and that playing through the titles reveals the deliberate ordering of the remakes.
With the release of Resident Evil Requiem, the first ten-year phase has drawn to a close, paving the way for the overarching story to wrap up in the subsequent decade.
Future Releases and Franchise Sales
While the main narrative has a planned conclusion, Capcom intends to release multiple titles in the interim to keep the franchise active.
Takeuchi confirmed that multiple entries are currently in development, though specific details about these upcoming projects remain undisclosed.
Avoiding spoilers, Takeuchi reiterated that the pipeline includes more than just a single game.
Resident Evil has maintained strong commercial momentum, boosted by entries like Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Furthermore, Resident Evil Requiem surpassed $500 million in revenue following its launch.
Multiple titles from the franchise continue to rank among Capcom's top-selling games, demonstrating sustained consumer interest across both classic remakes and recent installments.
Upcoming projects include the Code Veronica remake slated for early next year, alongside potential story downloadable content for Resident Evil Requiem and expansion across other media formats.
