Departure of a Industry Veteran
Dan Greenawalt, a longtime Microsoft employee who helped establish Turn 10 Studios and directed eight entries in the Forza Motorsport franchise across four generations of Xbox hardware, is retiring from the company.
An internal memo confirmed the departure, noting that Greenawalt felt it was the right time to step away. This follows recent structural changes at Xbox that saw Playground Games, developer of the Forza Horizon series, merge with Turn 10.
Legacy at Xbox
Colleagues highlighted his extensive contributions over nearly three decades, ranging from early work on Project Gotham Racing for the original Xbox to founding Turn 10 and spearheading the creation of the Forza ecosystem.
Future of the Franchise
The 2023 installment of Forza Motorsport, initially envisioned as an evolving platform, faces an uncertain future following studio layoffs that reportedly shifted remaining personnel toward supporting the successful Forza Horizon series, with no further content currently planned for Motorsport.
Throughout his tenure, the primary Motorsport series maintained a strong critical reception, with multiple titles earning high praise from reviewers.
